The Ice Pirates (1984)
Never did I think I was going to watch another movie by the guy that directed Mac and Me. You know, that movie that you watch once just to see the kid in a wheel chair get blamed for wrecking a house and then rolls down a hill out back off a cliff into a lake? Yeah, that one. This movie is put right up there on a pedestal up next to Spaceballs. It is honestly one of the funniest sci-fi spoofs I've ever seen. It's got the best of both worlds really. It's a great sci-fi movie and a great comedy at the same time. You don't see that many movies that pull of that perfect balance of genres. Usually you end up with crap like this, this and this. More often than not, it just falls to pieces. There were scenes in this movie that it would hard to not just laugh at loud. I went into this movie not really knowing what it was. It was just a random movie from the 1980s that I don't remember acquiring and didn't read the back of the DVD case to find out. Sometimes its better that way. You'll find gems if you just close your eyes and point.
